COCAINE JESUS (Week 2)

"COCAINE JESUS" is a new video on youtube, and it has people talking. But for what reasons?

The video begins with the beat of insanely cool music, an introduction to the creator, and the title "COCAINE"

The scene is set and the story is told. The words come quickly and leave even faster, as the story comes to the climax in less than four minutes.

As a Quentin Tarantino fan, it's hard not to recognise a striking similarity between the style of this small video by Boscutti, and the feature films of tarantino. In particular, Reservoir Dogs.

They both have their obvious differences. However, the musical power and the fascinating way in which the story is told I believe are the obvious similarities. Not to mention the subject matter of the "underworld" in which they both depict, in an unafraid and controversial manner.

The idea that the "drug dealers" name is Jesus is an obvious means for controversy. Some may argue that this places religion in a dark and untrue light. Some may be happy with this light. "Jesus" could also be used as a metaphor for how religion is often misunderstood in life, and can only really be in clear view once the end comes.

Boscutti holds a powerful use over words, rather than images like Tarantino does. The music holds the power to prompt the readers imagination even more vividly than if words were used alone.

Although there exists vivid imagination in the viewing of this clip, what it is saying is unspecific and allows the viewer to make their own assumptions and interpretations of what is being said about the world, topics perhaps more meanigful than a drug-bust in down town New York. For some, it is simply that! An entertaining story told in a creative and fresh way.
